Wollongong University and Loftus TAFE will operate as park-and-ride sites for Olympic spectators from the Illawarra and South Coast during the 2000 Games.
Spectators parking at Wollongong University can catch a shuttle bus service to North Wollongong station to connect with trains to Homebush.
Olympic Roads and Transport Authority (ORTA) corporate affairs director Paul Willoughby announced the park-and-ride venues yesterday at a special Olympic planning seminar.
``For some Olympic venues outside Sydney's Olympic Park at Homebush Bay, spectators from the Illawarra and South Coast will also be able to drive to suburban park-and ride-sites for shuttle buses connecting directly with a venue," he said.
Mr Willoughby said significant numbers of people from the Illawarra would travel to the Games as spectators.
``The park-and-ride sites at Wollongong University and Loftus TAFE will significantly reduce spectator travel times and make it easier for local spectators to connect with the Olympic transport system.
``All Olympic spectators will be entitled to free travel on CityRail trains from Bomaderry for the day of their ticket."
Mr Willoughby said spectators could avoid a train trip of more than two hours in each direction by parking at Loftus TAFE instead of catching a train at Bomaderry.
