Making Your Way To The Velodrome
Sydney Morning Herald
Tuesday September 19, 2000
Spectators will travel to the Dunc Gray Velodrome at Bankstown by a combination of train and bus. A spectator shuttle bus service will run between Bankstown railway station and the velodrome.
From almost all of the areas we have listed, there's the option of driving to the Bass Hill Park and Ride Site, situated at the Bass Hill Drive-In at the corner of Johnston Street and Arundle Street, in between the Bass High School and the Bass Hill Plaza. On almost all lines, there will be no less than four trains an hour before the event.
Travelling from Hornsby and the North Shore, it's best to catch a train to Central, then a train to Bankstown and the shuttle bus to the venue. Alternatively, you could drive to Bass Hill and catch the shuttle bus straight to the venue. Driving to Bass Hill will cut down your travelling time by at least an hour, so it may be worth it today.
From Manly and The Northern Beaches you can either catch a local bus to the closest rail station to your house, or drive to that rail station, then catch a train to Central or Wynyard station. From there you can catch a train to Bankstown and a shuttle bus to the venue. If you feel like a long drive, go to Bass Hill and catch a shuttle bus to the venue.
From the Hills District, catch a train to Central station, then a train to Bankstown, and a shuttle bus to the venue, but it could take almost three hours. Driving to Bass Hill and then catching the shuttle bus to the venue should be quicker.
The official spectator guide suggests those coming from Richmond Windsor or Western Sydney catch a train to Central, then a train to Bankstown and the shuttle bus, but that could take up to two hours and 45 minutes. If you can, drive you should be there within an hour.
Similarly from Campbelltown, Liverpool, Fairfield, the car is the best route to Bass Hill, and from there catch the shuttle bus.
Travelling from Cronulla, Sutherland or Menai catch a train to Sydenham, then a train to Bankstown and then the shuttle bus. But driving to Bass Hill and catching the shuttle bus will cut travelling time by at least an hour.
From the Inner West, or the Eastern Suburbs get to Redfern station, catch another train to Bankstown and a shuttle bus to the venue. Alternatively, you could drive to Bass Hill and catch the connecting shuttle bus to the Velodrome It will only take you 45 minutes from either Ashfield, Drummoyne or Glebe to park and ride, as opposed to two and a half hours catching the trains and shuttle bus.
From St George and East Hills get to Sydenham station, or drive to Bass Hill. From East Hills the entire trip should take you no more than about two hours and five minutes, and it should take one hour and 40 minutes from Hurstville.
From the city it's easy. Just get on the train straight to Bankstown and then the connecting shuttle bus. You should get there in about one hour 30 minutes.
If you live in Canterbury Bankstown area you probably don't need to be told to get to Bankstown station and take the shuttle bus straight to the venue. They operate every five minutes.

Tickets for same day events are no longer available through the 13 72 79 ticket
hotline. To buy a ticket on the day of an event you need to go to a box office.
People can buy tickets through the 13 72 79 ticket hotline for next-day events
and beyond and through www.olympics.com for purchases at least two days away.
Box offices at venues are now open - although to get to venue box offices at
Sydney Olympic Park people need either a spectator pass or a ticket to an event
on the day they go there. Among the new venue-based box offices which people
can now go to are those at Bondi Beach, the Sydney Football Stadium and the
Dunc Gray Velodrome at Bankstown all which open at least two hours before
competition. Anyone buying a ticket for a same-day event must allow enough time
to get to that event - consult your spectator guide available at box offices
if you are in any doubt about how much time you need.
